Welcome Back Darren

Great to see that you're doing the podcasts again. I'm looking forward to them.

YES!

Alright, was a long wait for this. Will watch ASAP! Thanks again for being "back", I hope to see more from you!

Great News

Hey Darren,

Glad to see you back posting stuff online. Your lessons are excellent. Hope you feel refreshed.

Thanks again.
Jeff

Podcasts are back?

Wow, I can hardly believe it! This news really made my day.

WELCOME BACK

Hi, Darren, great to see you back from your break. I have been dabbling in recording since you've been on break. I have a Mackie amp/mixer(1200 watt) and Audacity software on my laptop. I am using a stereo 1/8" to 1/4" cable. I've noticed the sound in your videos is considerably different from when you speak and play. The drums sound great in the vids. I'm interested in making vids of myself to possibly better myself by watching and listening, but also just want to record the sound on my laptop. Any suggestions. Thanks and good to have you back....Stan

Re: WELCOME BACK/My recording setup

Hi Stan. Thanks for the comment. It sounds like you've got all you need to make a decent recording of your drums. Of course you don't mention what kind of mics you have, which, of course, is just as important as the other links in your chain.

For my voice, I've just been using a lapel mic straight into the camera. For the drums, I've been using a Behringer mixer that runs, via RCA to 1/8" plug, into my sound card. I've been using Cakewalk Pro Audio 9, and I have a software effects pack that includes compression and reverb, which I use on the drums. For mics, I have an Audio Technica ATM25 on the kick, two AKG C1000S mics overhead, and Shure 57s on the toms and snare. You might be interested in watching the podcast I did about micing the drums on 11/02/2006. I learned some good stuff about micing from talking with Mike Dresch.

My Mics

Darren, I'm actually using CAD mics, 4 toms, 1 low freq. kick and 2 instrument mics. I'm not using the instrument mics just the 5 tom/kick mics. Hope these work well. Other than recording they've worked great. I've haven't used them to record yet. I'll check out that vid again on miking. And, again, Thanks

WB

Thanks heaps for coming back Darren. Look forward to some more podcasts. Is "heaps" something that only Australians say?

Re: WB

I don't know, but every time I've read it in an e-mail, it's been from an Australian. Now if someone could hook me up with a trip down under, I could do some real research and get back to you. : )

Happy to see you back
